The Rock Cycle
Magma is molten material that hardens to form igneous
rocks
Intrusive igneous rocks form when magma cools below the
Earths surface.
Extrusive igneous rocks form when lava cools at the Earths
surface.
Basaltic rocks are heavy, dark, and dense.
Granatic rocks are light colored,
Adesitic Rocks are intermediate between basaltics and
granitcs
When heat and pressure increases, metamorphic rocks form
Slate gneiss are foliated or banded metamorphic.
Sedimentary rocks form when fragments of rocks, minerals,
and or organic materials are compacted and cemented together.
